About Marilyn

I have lived in northern Nevada most of my life and love the scenery and old towns found here.  Primarily, I am a photojournalist and have worked with the Reno Gazette-Journal since 1963.  I started my journalism career at the age of 12 when I wrote my first story that was published in the Carson City Nevada Appeal.  After attending the University of Nevada for one semester, I was hired by the then Reno Evening Gazette.  I wrote my first front-page story three weeks later, and within six months, I was packing a camera.  I have been very fortunate in my career, winning close to 400 national and state awards.  I was named Nevada Photographer of the Year in 1992 and, in 2002, was named to the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame.  I have three books published thus far.  Two were collaborative efforts.  My latest, “Alkali Angels,” is one that I both photographed and wrote.
